Some impressions about experience as an internship student this summer in Belgium

When my friends are asking me about how was my summer, where I was going and doing: I am simply answering: it was different and amazing. And it was like that indeed. What made it to be called like this, was the fact that I got the opportunity for the summer period to make an internship in Belgium, through Erasmus placement.

I was doing my internship in a youth organization named: Youth for Exchange and Understanding International (YEU) located in Brussels, which works on the youth field, using non formal education methods to increase tolerance and awareness between young people from different countries, cultures and traditions.  The internship that I was doing was a perfect opportunity to develop personal and professional skills. It was an experience that gave me valuable knowledge and skills about daily management of NGO; youth work field, policies issues, publications, organizing different events as well attending seminars and conventions on behalf of organization. Getting experience through internship it is a great way on implementing your knowledge on practice, learning the things by doing them, building your confidence and taking new initiatives.

So, while being part of the organization I had the chance to be part of different youth activities on behalf of organization, like seminars and conventions were people from EU and non EU countries were gathered together and discussing different issues and offering the best possible solutions. On those activities my role was a participant and facilitator. Being a facilitator was an experience that I really enjoyed a lot. My role was there, was to guide the participant on the different tasks that they needed to accomplish during each session, listening, encouraging the group discussion between participants, gathering their feelings and thoughts, suggestions, comments during the reflection groups organized in the end of each day.

Internship experience it is a great opportunity that give you the space  to take new initiatives and try new things that you have never done before by developing absolutely as sense of self realization. In this context while I was on the process of writing a manual for the organization about “How to use new media and social networking in youth work for advocacy proposes?”I came up with an idea that I was really interesting to further develop. It was about Storytelling. I decided to take a next step and I wanted learn how to implement this idea into practice. After I was discussing the idea with the director she was welcoming it and she was very helpful on explaining all the steps to follow on project writing. The title of the project is going to be “Empowering through Storytelling”. If the project will get approved it will take place in Lithuania, Kaunas on April 2015.

Expect the part of the work, I found some time to enjoy Belgium and visited some other cities around as well. Indeed, I think it is a country that always has something to offer and surprise. It is a country full of life and entertainments. As well, another pleasure part of this experience was tasted of the typical Belgian’s dishes. Just lovely!

The last thing that I would like to mention, but not the least is a big THANK YOU for the VDU University that constantly supports and offers to the students such a great and amazing opportunities.

Invitation to scientific – practical conference YOUTH IN GLOBAL SOCIETY: CHANGES AND CHALENGES

We kindly invite You to participate in the International Scientific – Practical Conference

“Youth in global society: changes and challenges”

Young people are considered from 14 to 29 years old in Lithuania – that is the group, which starts actively participating and becomes a part of global society, which is influenced by most of the processes of globalization. Youth faces new and multi questions while acquiring the status of a young person in today's society, like: how to become more independent, how to find and keep his/her own identity, how to choose right decision while choosing his/her personal and professional way, how to work with new technologies, that they would not become a barrier, but the key to successful integration to wide society.

More and more attention is paid to actualization of youth theme during the recent years in Lithuania. First international youth researches conference “Do I know Young people” was held in 2012. During the Presidency of the Council of the European Unionthe Youth conference was held on the September 9th -12th, 2013 in Vilnius, where 21 conclusions were adopted. These conclusions reveal main topic in the processes of EU structural dialogue with young people, that is social inclusion of young people, which mostly takes into account inclusion of young people that is not in the following systems - education, employment or training. Moreover, the main barrier in solving youth problems was found – the lack of systematic cross-sectorial communication approach.

Please register until 17th of November via e-mail: Aurelija.Kazlauskiene[at]jrd[dot]lt!

Taking into account these and other observations, it is obvious, that it need to continue the discussion, which has begun before, and to analyze the consequences of the globalization processes for young people from our country and Europe as well. It is important to raise the questions about the challenges and problems youth from big cities and regions face and what strategies for solving them are taking. We strongly believe, that it is high need to discuss the ways the cross-departmental and cross-sectorial cooperation can be used that the needs of young people will be fulfilled.

CERTIFICATE FOTO

These two subjects are leaded by professors from VMU and Prof. Dr. Katherine Tyson McCrea from Chicago Loyola University.

In 2012 Prof. Dr. Katherine Tyson McCrea from the Loyola University of Chicago read a lecture about disadvantaged African-American youth at VMU.

In her lecture, titledChoosing Compassion: Learning from Disadvantaged African-American Youth About Helping People Prefer the Good, the American scholar presented the results of a counseling and youth leadership development program in the USA that she has been working on for 6 years.

Students about these courses:

These lectures expanded view of social work limitless possibilities in new knowledge. During the lectures the opportunity to improve language skills overcomes the language barrier. (Graduate student Gitana)

I liked the way these subjects were leaded; I mean that this opportunity to talk and to share our knowledge and experience with American professor and students in real time was really amazing. I realised that in such a big distance social work is almost the same and we all are trying to help people to cope with their problems. (Graduate student Žaneta)

INVITATION TO THE SUPERVISION SUMMER UNIVERSITY ON “TRUST”

BUILDING TRUST THROUGH SUPERVISION

19-23 August, 2013

Kaunas, Lithuania

Organized by the Association of Supervisors in Lithuania (LPSKA) in collaboration with ANSE and Vytautas Magnus University

Supervision serves to assure and further develop the quality of communication and cooperation in professional contexts. In ever more areas of social life, civil society and business, the quality of human relations determines the quality of products and services. ‘Trust’ is an indispensable precondition for reliable and fruitful relations on both the personal and the organizational level.

Trust, however, is sorely lacking all over Europe and beyond. As supervisors we see how people lose trust in the organizations or institutions by which they are employed. There are many reasons for the rise of organizational distrust, such as continuous organizational change or, perhaps even more fundamental, the repeated experience that money is always given precedence over people.

As supervisors we are regularly confronted with this. What can – and should – we do about it? How can we help people and organizations to rebuild trust, and what is needed to be able to do that? Looking for answers we invite supervisors, coaches and other consultants, researchers, academics and interested employees to join the ANSE - LPSKA Summer University on “TRUST”.
