BA and MA programs in Social Work, Fall 2013

Department of Social work offers a full-time Bachelor (BA) and Master (MA) programs in Social work taught in English. The academic staff of Social work department engages about 25 members (professors, lecturers, assistants and PhD students) and other teachers and professors from different VMU departments and from foreign institutions which are our partners in EU Finland (Lapland University) and USA (Loyola University of Chicago).
 
BA program Community Development
 
This is full-time Bachelor program (3.5 academic years (210 ECTS)). The program of Community Development is designed to develop community work qualification for professionals working in large, diverse (intercultural) groups, local and international teams and communities as well as non-formal neighborhood groups for the benefit of peace building and civil society. Main competencies provided are aimed at broad comprehension of group dynamics, social stratification and social networks, social policy, principles of community development and community based practice, building trust, solidarity and inclusion in and among local communities and mastering adequate social work and interdisciplinary techniques.
 
 
MA program Social Work
 
Master degree program Social Work is full-time, 2 academic years (120 ECTS) program. Social Work Master study program integrates research, theory reflection and practice. The aim of the Program is to prepare an advanced social worker who is able to research contextualised practice and act integrating and developing professional knowledge, skills, values, enhancing the solution of human interaction and personal relation with environment problems, initiating social changes and innovations in pursuit of person’s and societal welfare, strengthening civic society and developing professional competences. Program is targeted at ensuring the development of learning, reflectivity, critical thinking and transferable skills of students as researching practitioners.
